2021 home decor trends that are easy to pull off
After spending the majority of 2020 and part of 2021 at home, it’s no surprise that we are seeing a huge focus on comfort and functionality in home decor trends. We’ve compiled a list of some of the most popular interior design trends we’ve seen so far in 2021, including everything from houseplants to curved furniture and easy ways to implement these trends in your living space.
1. Natural Elements
Natural materials like wood, rock and organic textiles are trending. In addition to being on-trend, they are calming and timeless. They also add a lot of texture to your space. Bringing in natural elements helps to connect us with the world of nature outside, and that is something everyone has really needed spending so much time in our homes over the past year. We love the versatility of using natural elements in the home. These types of pieces fit well with many decor styles, but we especially love it for boho-chic interiors. Because of this, natural elements won’t go out of style any time soon. Some of the most popular ways to implement natural elements into your home are through furniture, hanging light fixtures, rugs and wall art.
Ready to try this trend out? Our new Atelier collection helps you to bring nature indoors. The Atelier collection adds a nature-inspired accent to your home. Curved silhouettes and mixed materials give these pieces their cozy modern look and allow you to pair it with a variety of styles.Made of wood and eco-friendly rattan, these natural materials are not only durable and sturdy, but also add a calming touch to any space in your home. The collection first launched with a side table and a coffee table. Both pieces boast a two-tier shelf design, with a spacious tabletop and a unique bottom shelf pair that simplify your daily life and provide ample space to put down snacks, drinks, or store a stack of magazines. We are loving the versatility of the side table. Add a touch of nature to any space in your home by using it as a side table, bedside table, entry way table, in your bathroom, wherever you’d like!
2. Plants
Houseplants have never been more fashionable. They are without a doubt one of the most popular home decor trends we are seeing in 2021, and possibly beyond. We suspect the rise in this trend is due to all of the time everyone has spent at home over the past year.
Houseplants are known to have both mental and physical benefits. People often find comfort and relaxation through owning houseplant, as the act of caring for them forces you to slow down from your daily routine. They also have a positive impact on your physical health. Results from a NASA study from the 1980s, show that plants can play a major role in removal of organic chemicals from indoor air.
With so many different options, there’s a kind of houseplant for everyone. When choosing the type of plant that works best for you, it’s important to keep a few things in mind.
- First, choose where you'd like your indoor plant to be located. The location will largely determine the type of plant that will work best for you. For example, things like access to sunlight may be necessary for some plants, while others may thrive without it. Something else that is important to consider is upkeep. How much time are you wanting to spend on taking care of your new houseplant? Try to be realistic when thinking about this.
- Now that you've chosen the plants you're going to use, decide how you want to arrange them.We recommend using a mix of planters and also placing plants on furniture, if you have the space. There are so many new fun and unique ideas surrounding styling houseplants, we suggest looking at Pinterest for some inspo.

3. Neutral Colors
In 2021, we have seen a huge rise in the use of a neutral color palette. Neutral colors can be used in virtually any design style, and we can see why everyone is loving this color palette. Neutral colors can be very calming, and can make a space feel clean and chic.
Using a neutral color palette can move the focus from color to design, which otherwise may be overshadowed by bright and bold colors. A neutral color palette allows the design of your home, furniture, accessories and art to really shine through. Neutral colors also allow the textural elements of your space, that often go unnoticed, to be seen. When you are able to layer textures, the space instantly feels more polished and warm.
Another pro to choosing neutral colors is that they are timeless. Unlike a bright and bold temporarily trending accent color, you are never going to get sick of a tan or ivory. So when you purchase pieces to go with this color palette, you know you will have them for a long time.
Want to use a neutral color pallet to decorate your home, but still want to try new trends? We suggest changing out accessories. This is an inexpensive and easy way to give that element of trend to your space. We suggest trying our Eula Round Mirror. This mirror is perfect for a neutral space because it aligns with the color palette, and will also make your space feel light and bright. Mirrors also tend to make a space feel larger, who wouldn’t want that? Neutral tones with a mirror is the perfect combination to create a light and bright space.
We do, however, caution you to be aware of the undertones of the neutral colors you choose to use in your space. Many of these neutral colors have undertones, so always keep them in mind as you match your colors. This is also important to consider when you are choosing paint colors.
4. Functionality
Functional furniture is another big trend we’ve seen this year. We attribute this also to the amount of time that everyone has been spending at home. This, together with the need to maximize small living spaces, has encouraged consumers to start being more diligent when selecting new furniture pieces. From office to bedroom to living space, consumers want furniture that will do more for them and simplify their daily routine. Multifunctional furniture also follows the minimalism trend, as you won’t need as many furniture pieces if one piece can serve multiple purposes. Furniture with multiple purposes also helps your wallet, as you will only have to purchase one piece to serve multiple purposes.
Some of our favorite pieces that follow this trend in style are our Marina Coffee Table and our Monty Storage Bench. The Marina Coffee Table is a traditional coffee table, a work desk and stylish storage solution all in one. With its lift-top design, the Marina Coffee Table can transform from a coffee table to a raised workstation in seconds. And the hidden storage space is perfect for storing anything from electronics to books and more.
Another multifunctional piece we are loving is the Monty Storage Bench. The Monty Bench brings style and functionality to your home by combining chic materials with a large storage box. It is the perfect piece to add to virtually any area of your home. Some of our favorite locations for the Monty Bench are your entryway, living room, and bedroom. It looks so cute at the end of a bed, perfect for storing extra pillows and blankets!
Having products like this in your home really helps to simplify your daily routine, and that’s why we predict this trend is here to stay for the foreseeable future.
5. Curved Shapes
2021 is all about curvy furniture and feminine lines. From couches to archways, the curve trend can be implemented in so many different ways. Curved pieces add a feeling of softness to a space and also give a luxurious feel to your home. They also tend to be great statement pieces. Rounded pieces are also versatile, and can be seen in different design styles ranging from Mid-Century Modern to Mediterranean.
Our biggest tip when adding a round piece to a room is to make sure it has enough empty space around it. If not, the space can begin to feel a bit overwhelming. Allowing curved furniture pieces to have enough space creates a sense of balance in the room. Our favorite way to embrace this trend? Though we love the sophistication of a curved sofa, we’re not sure how much longevity it has. Until we know this is a trend that is here for the long-haul, we suggest implementing it into your space with some accessories. If you’re ready to try this trend, we think our Viv Full-Length Mirror is a great option.
The Viv Mirror is the perfect accent piece to add to virtually any space in your home. We love the range of colors and versatility of this mirror. It comes in 4 different colors, and can be assembled three different ways:
- When used as a freestanding mirror, the garment rod located at the back helps keep things tidy.
- For smaller spaces, mounting this full-length mirror to the wall will help maximize existing square footage.
- When leaning against the wall, this elegant mirror will help open up the space and create more depth.
